While attending his first Kentucky Derby experience in 2023, Paul Brourman captured an image of a couple engaged in conversation, later created as an original oil painting titled, “The Wager”. Brourman’s aim was to capture a quintessential Derby scene.

In 2023, Paul Brourman and his wife Katie attended their first Kentucky Derby. While the main event was exhilarating, it was the spectacle of the Turf Club experience that caught Brourman’s artistic eye. One guest in particular stood out among the crowd. Eden Bridgeman Sklenar. “Eden walked by surrounded by friends and family as if she was floating on air. She looked magnificent.”, he recalled. Eden struck a pose in that moment for a “future” portrait by Brourman.
